Maine State Credit Union Launches Charitable Giving Program with a Fundraiser to Help Victims of the LA Fire and Hurricane Helene

January 30, 2025, Augusta, ME - Maine State Credit Union is excited to launch “People Helping People,” a new charitable giving initiative dedicated to helping people through donations and volunteer efforts in Maine and across the United States.

The first event for this program is a disaster relief fundraiser to help people and animals impacted by the devastating fires in California and Hurricane Helene that hit the people of North Carolina. Maine State Credit Union has established a disaster relief fund. It welcomes members, non-members, and the entire community to donate to help those severely impacted by recent natural disasters.

“Helping people is one of the true guiding principles of not only Maine State Credit Union but credit unions in general,” said Stephen Wallace, President and CEO of Maine State Credit Union. “We believe it is our responsibility as a community credit union to step up and help those in need, and People Helping People does just that.”

Establishing a community-wide disaster relief fund open to everyone allows people to contribute any amount.  Today, fraudsters are taking advantage of every opportunity to scam people. According to Wallace, the People Helping People disaster relief fund gives people a safe way to make a difference.

Maine State Credit Union will match donations to $3,000 and split them between the CUAID Disaster Relief Fund for the LA Fires. The National Credit Union Foundation created this relief fund to help credit union employees and volunteers. They will also donate to the North Carolina Relief Foundation, Pasadena Humane Society in California, and Best Friends: Save Them All, an animal rescue organization in North Carolina.

People and businesses wishing to contribute to this relief effort may donate at any Maine State Credit Union branch location or mail a check to Maine State Credit Union, ATTN: People Helping People, P.O. Box 5659, Augusta, ME 04330. We will be collecting donations through the month of February.
