Maine State Credit Union Awards $100,000 in Scholarships to Maine Residents
AUGUSTA, ME – Maine State Credit Union’s Normand R. Dubreuil Scholarship Fund at the Maine Community College System and Maine Maritime Academy awarded 64 scholarships totaling $100,000 to Maine residents; sixty-two students studying trades in the Community College System, and two attending Maine Maritime Academy in Castine.
“Normand was a great believer in education and investing in the people of Maine,” said Tucker Cole, Chief Executive Officer, Maine State Credit Union. “He would be proud knowing how many people we can help on his behalf.”
The Normand Dubreuil Scholarship Fund was created in 2020 by the Maine State Credit Union board of directors in memory of longtime CEO Normand R. Dubreuil. It is funded through annual donations by Maine State Credit Union to the Maine Community College System and Maine Maritime Academy. The schools administer the fund and award the scholarships every year. Students who receive the scholarships do not need to be members of the Maine State Credit Union but need to meet requirements set by the school. Since its start, Maine State Credit Union has donated over $150,000 to this cause.
“Normand was a man with a big heart. He was always looking for ways to help people,” said George Lapointe, Chairperson, Maine State Credit Union. “I am glad we can honor him in this way.
Seven colleges make up the Maine Community College system with campuses across the state. Degree programs and certificates include health care, culinary arts, public safety, engineering, and more. Maine Maritime Academy is in Castine and focuses on engineering, management, science, and transportation.
