Maine State Credit Union Buys Meals for First Responders
Essential workers show support to other crucial workers during this challenging time.
Augusta, Maine - Maine State Credit Union employees took time away from the busy drive-thru to show their support to the local fire and police forces in Augusta and Waterville. They delivered gift cards to the first responders to use to purchase meals from local restaurants.
"We wanted to do something for other essential employees, at the same time helping local restaurants. Our local police, fire, and EMTs are on-call 24/7 making sure our communities remain safe. We wanted to show our appreciation for what they do every day." said Tucker Cole, CEO, Maine State Credit Union.
Branch employees traveled across Kennebec County, dropping off gift cards to first responders and saying thanks. Many of the departments were surprised by the gesture, and all were appreciative.
Maine State Credit Union continues to provide its members with the highest level of service during this time. While the lobbies are closed, the drive-thru is open and busy. Maine State CU is also taking over 700 calls some days from members who are calling to check their balances, see if their stimulus check has arrived, or even open a new account.
"We are dedicated to helping our members when things get tough. To some of our members, it’s helping them use the drive-thru for the first time, others it’s the ability to skip-a-loan payment or apply for a community care loan to bridge the financial income gap," said Cole. "Our employees' compassion for our members and community is shining through in their voices and actions. When asked if someone wanted to deliver gift cards to local first responders to show our appreciation, many raised their hand without hesitation. That is who we are."
